PBS MediaShift is a leading destination for insight and analysis at the intersection of media and technology. In early 2015, an audience survey uncovered an unmet need: practical how-to training that gives people the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.

 

Challenge

To organize, produce, sell tickets to, and host a premium weekly live web series featuring online training sessions that educate MediaShift’s DigitalEd audience while building the brand. These public yet premium training sessions needed to be intensive and interactive, and were designed to feature the insights of thought leaders within the digital communication and journalism industries, to provide an authentic look into the latest trends and best practices at the intersection of media and technology.

SOLUTION

What started as a large task — organizing a global web series for DigitalEd online training — became a lot easier when Mark and his team were connected to BigMarker. BigMarker not only provides the live video and audio streaming technology to host the live training sessions, but also the ability to sell tickets, promote and monetize recorded sessions, connect hosts with attendees before and after events, all while seamlessly integrating with the other tools and channels the MediaShift team uses on a daily basis.

Results

Since starting over one year ago, DigitalEd has hosted nearly 50 premium training sessions using BigMarker’s online events platform. DigitalEd’s weekly web series continues to connect media experts with attendees from around the world interested in social media, podcasting, videography, journalism, virtual reality, mobile apps and other subjects important within digital communications and journalism. So what’s next for MediaShift and the DigitalEd series? “Well,” says Mark Glaser, “like everything in our industry, we’re evolving quickly. So you’ll just have to stay tuned!”
